Hi everyone, Seeing as how this 16 degree morning has forced us to remain indoors. We decided to post some updates on our progress. Of course we could clean, or do laundry, or just sit in front of the tele. watching these mindless talk shows. But not us, we are working together to do it all. minus the mindless. I almost like that ¨minus the mindless¨. The mindless gibberish of the entertainment industry.
This tiny house of ours is taking shape. We have applied the hardie siding, added some corbels, and installed a few windows.
I want to write a little about a detail I added to the corner posts on the front corners.
It mimics a detail I saw on a piece of seventeenth century furniture. I know it as a Lambs Tongue Chamfer.
I made these with nothing more than a handheld router fitted with a 45 degree chamfer bit.
I picked a place and marked the top line, an inch below that line I placed another mark, and another mark 1/2 ” below that one.
We finally found time to enjoy one of these beautiful fall days working on our house.
We started the morning out making some pretty final decisions to our kitchen and bathroom floor plan. Dave began taking measurements and crunching numbers.
Just some picks of our progress..
All of the lumber that has been used in the framing was salvageded lumber from previous jobs. We also used pallets and crates. Scrapes from our shop and 3 pieces of lumber purchased off the cull lumber from a big box store.
We finished removing the camper from the trailer and have begun the rebuild. We had two treated 12′ 6×6 that we dug out at our shop. My awesome honey and his skills turned these into our floor joists.
With little to no cash funds for this project we opteded to build ours out of Reclaimed Materials. We actually are going to try and build something with luck, beautiful out of what most might consider trash.
Our target budget for this build is $2500.00….
So we start the project by purchasing a 1976 19′ Taurus camper for $300 off of a personal listing from Craiglist.com. Such an ugly little trailer but Dave and I have big plans for the trailer underneath that ghastly Tin shell!!
